Description

Curium's atomic number is 96 and its symbol is Cm. It is a hard, dense, silvery metal with a relatively high melting point and boiling point. Curium does not exist in nature. It is a synthetic element and it is produced in nuclear reactors by bombarding plutonium with neutrons.

The researchers at first referred to curium as ‘delirium’ owing to the difficulties they encountered trying to isolate it from another new element with which it was very closely associated, americium. But it was eventually named after Marie and Pierre Curie, due to their research in radioactivity.

This display is contained within crystal clear lucite acrylic.
